When to cook for someone
Wait until you know them a little.
Cooking at home is lovely, but it's best for a third or fourth date, once you're comfortable and have met somewhere public first.
Keep the menu simple
- Cook something you've made before. A date isn't the time to try a new recipe.
- Choose dishes you can prepare ahead. A curry, a stew, a pasta bake or a tray of roasted vegetables lets you spend the evening talking, not stirring.
- Ask about allergies and dislikes before you plan.
- Keep pudding easy. Something you made earlier, or a treat from a favourite bakery, works just as well.
Cooking together
Making something side by side can be more fun than being cooked for. Pick a recipe you'll both enjoy, share the jobs, and don't worry if it doesn't go to plan.
If they're not vegan
Cooking for them is a great way to show how good vegan food can be. Choose familiar, comforting dishes rather than anything that needs explaining.
Not ready to invite them home?
That's fine. Read eating out on a date or our vegan first date ideas.
