Choosing where to go
Somewhere you know you'll eat well takes the stress out of the evening.
- Suggest a place you like. A vegan restaurant or café you already know is an easy choice.
- Check the menu online first if you're trying somewhere new.
- Choose somewhere you can talk. A quiet lunch is often easier than a busy evening.
When they choose
If your date suggests somewhere, have a quick look at the menu or call ahead. Most places will happily adapt a dish if you ask, and it's fine to suggest an alternative.
When the menu's limited
- Ask politely. Staff are often glad to help.
- Keep it light. A smile and a sensible choice say more than a long explanation.
- Eat a little beforehand if you're unsure, so you're not hungry and distracted.
Who pays?
There's no rule. Split it, take it in turns, or let whoever asked pay. A quick word about it avoids any awkwardness.
